Presenting Grace Baum

So my best friend in the whole world had her sweet little baby girl about a week ago.
Grace Baum was born on March 8th, 2011 and weighed 7 lbs 10 oz and seriously did a number on her Mom when trying to make her entrance into this world. Beca was over a week late and finally went to the doctor on Monday around noon to get induced and didn't actually have the baby until Tuesday night at 6:42pm. She pushed for awhile and the doctor even suctioned the babe's head 3 times to try and get her out but she wasn't budging. They finally had to do an emergency c-section. I think Beca said she was just positioned funny so she couldn't get over the pelvic bone. When Grace was finally born she wasn't breathing right so they had to rush her to the NICU. She was there for a few hours and then finally got to go be with her Mommy and Daddy. Grace got a little beat up during the birth but everyone is doing great now.
Congratulations to Beca and Zack. They are going to be amazing parents and that little girl is now part of one of the best families. She's going to be VERY LOVED!!!!
(I stole this picture from Laura's blog. Thanks Laura!)
I am so excited to meet this sweet little girl and I can't wait for Heidi to meet her future best friend. =)

4 month check up

On March 4, 2011 Heidi went to the doctor for her 4 month well check. She was really only 3 months and 1 week but that's how the doctor schedules the shots. Heidi and Mommy drove to Logandale on Thursday morning. It started to snow before we left and the roads were pretty bad at first but we made it just fine. Heidi did great in the car which was good for me since Kirk wasn't with us. We met my mom and Emily in St. George to hit up Tai Pan. After we got through the gorge Heidi was done traveling. She started screaming her little head off. I pulled over and asked my mom to get in my car so she could sit with Heidi. That didn't really help any so she just screamed the rest of the way to Logandale. Friday we went to my house to check on things and to grab a few things we couldn't fit or had forgotten. I also picked a bag full of spinach out of the garden and 2 heads of lettuce. It's so awesome to be able to eat food out of your very own garden. Then we headed to lunch and the doctor.
They wouldn't let me hold Heidi when they gave her the shots and she didn't like that. She screamed like crazy when the shots were given but calmed down almost immediately afterward.
Her stats are:
Height- 24.25 inches 75%
Weight- 14 lbs. 8 oz. 75-90%
Head- 41.5 cm 75-90%
Practically perfect in everyway.
I was nervous about how the shots were going to effect her since last time they made her really achey so I bought some baby tylenol and gave it to her before she could even feel the pain. She never reacted to the shots so I'm not sure if the Tylenol was necessary but I'd rather stop that pain from happening again. Last time it was terrible. We woke up Saturday and went to get donuts and hot chocolate with Gran and Grandpa then I headed back to Utah. Heidi travels best when she can sleep so we had to leave as soon as I knew she was getting tired. Again, she did awesome. On both trips I stopped in Beaver to eat at Wendy's and to let her have a break from the carseat. Both times someone offered to carry my tray of food for me. Such nice people. She didn't start crying until we were in Huntington and even that wasn't too bad. I called Kirk and told him that I had missed the turn off from the I-70 and had been traveling in the wrong direction for 45 minutes. He totally fell for it. Unfortunately it was easy to believe because it is totally something I would probably do but I totally got him. =)
I was so glad to be back with Kirk but the time we got to spend with Gran, Grandpa and family was great.

And the award for the Worst Mom 2011 goes to...

Yup. This one is mine.
It's true.
I am offically the worst mom on record.
How do I know?
Yesterday in my rush to get homework done I neglected my baby and caused her the biggest terror of her life so far.
The story-
Most of my days lately have been spent juggling Heidi while trying to get all my homework done, train for the upcoming half marathon and occasionally making dinner. I have found a pretty good balance and have become a wonder woman at multi-tasking with only one hand while the other holds the babe. Yesterday was no different. I had just finished changing the child for the 100th time that day and came upstairs to try to finish an assignment for school. I sat down on the couch and placed Heidi by my side. She is only 3.5 months old but has been rolling some for the past few weeks. She's not great at it yet so I wasn't even thinking about it when I placed her little body on the couch just close enough to the edge. I turned to my computer and within a second I heard the most terrible sound. My sweet trusting little girl had flung herself off the couch and onto the floor with a thud. I turn to her and see her little body on the floor with the most terrified look on her baby face. I let out a scream along with her own and automatically reach for my child. The distance from my seated position on the couch to the floor multiplied from a few feet to what seemed like miles. She looked so far down there and it felt as though it took minutes to reach her. I wanted so badly to hold and comfort my little girl that any amount of time and any distance seemed like eternity.
It only took a few moments to calm her down and then only a few minutes longer to find her asleep in my arms. I then wondered if I should wake her up in case she was suffering from a concussion but how could I do that after such a terrifying event in her little life?
Do not worry, she did not have a concussion. Just quite a fright. It took only a second of turning from her for me to have the most horrible experience of my life and to earn me this title.
She is fine now and doesn't seem to hate me so that's good.
She may however think twice before rolling from her back to stomach again.

Our Swiss Heidi Girl

Heidi's Swiss Grandma and Grandpa, Yvonne and Bim, sent her these super cute boots. Luckily we are living in Utah right now so she gets to use them everyday! =)
Thanks Bim and Yvonne!

On February 23, 2011 Heidi girl turned 3 months old. She is growing up so fast.
Here are a few things of note:
She still doesn't reall sleep through the night.
She loves to suck on her hands and makes loud sucking noises when she does.
She has rolled over a couple times but I think they might have been accidents.
She likes taking baths.
She LOVES being outside.
She likes to go for runs in the jogging stroller.
She still smiles and giggles a lot.
She loves to dance.
She gets cranky when she's tired.
She's wearing 3 month clothes.
She is ALWAYS moving.
She likes Mom to lay by her on the ground and read stories.
She's amazing!
We love you sweet girl!
