Day 26.

Day 26: Pie
This is a pie that Kirk's cousin made for Thanksgiving. Now, while I do not eat pie like this due to the fruit aspect it still looked lovely and everyone else raved about it's deliciousness and I can still appreciate an awesome fruit pie when I see one.

I'm really happy pie exists and probably all desserts for that matter. I could just eat desserts for every meal and be content. Ok, mostly I do but still.

Janie's blessing

My little sister Amy just had her first baby. Jane Bailey Warburton. We went to her blessing on November 1st. She is so dang adorable.
And these are Jono's twins Maddy (in the light pink) and Abby (in the dark). Aren't they so cute though dirty? =) I have to buy their love so I bribed them with these suckers. Becca didn't love them but the girls did. If you'll notice, Maddy has a Harry Potter scar right in the middle of her forehead. She's a hardcore fan.

The Circle of Life

Since Kirky and I don't have to worry about taking any little munchkins trick or treating we were lucky enough to get cheap tickets to see The Lion King on Halloween night. What an awesome show. The costumes are amazing and the music is too! It was such a great night. Way better then staying home and passing out candy. Which in actuality makes no difference because Brady was at our house and said we didn't have a single trick or treater.

You can't really see the stage in those pictures but it's there. I promise.

And here's a lovely picture of our blacked-out faces in the lion's crotch. =)

Murder of a Millionaire

For Halloween Kirk and I threw a murder mystery party. We did it on October 30th so we didn't compete with anyone's trick or treating. It was so fun. For those who don't know what said murder mystery party is let me enlighten your minds. Murder mysteries are interactive games where each guest is given a role to play as we try and discover who is the murderer. It's a real life Clue game in essence. Dinner is also served. Our party was the Murder of a Millionaire. The premise of the party was that a millionaire dies and all the guests come together to hear the reading of his will to see how they benefit from his death. Unfortunately, one of the guests will not leave with the millions or their life. (dun dun dun) Everyone got their invites about 2 weeks in advance. Everyone was given a character with some information about that character and costume ideas to go with it. Nobody (not even me) knew who was to be murdered or who the murderer was until the murder happens.

Here are the players-

The whole group

Emily as Jasmine Rochester (the widow) and Noah as Fabio Fabulous (the poolboy)

Amy as Elizabeth Rochester (the daughter, she also won best costume) and Collin as Neal Worthers (the chauffeur)

Marie as Jessica Rochester (the ex-wife) and Matt as Bob Bucks (the accountant)

Kirk as Reilly Ravish (the attorney) and Katie as Allison Rochester (the daughter)

Dad as Geoffrey Worthers (the butler) and Mom as Josephine Worthers (the maid)

The party was so much fun! Everyone played their characters very well. Especially Dad. Who knew he was such a ham. =)

And here are the decos throughout the house. Decorating was one of the best parts for me. =)

This was supposed to be a brain and eyeball specimen jars. While I was making them Kirk offered to just bring home a real brain from school. Um...gross!

I totally recommend a murder mystery party for your next get-together. I'll even sell you mine so you can have as much fun as we did.

Fall Flavors

So for our wedding Kirk and I recieved this amazing cookbook. Looks good huh? Since we live in Las Vegas and eight months out of the year the weather is far too hot to make soup and I am wholly against cold soup, I have been waiting for that chill in the air so I could crack the spine on this book and have some delicious eats. A few days ago I made a pumpkin roll and had A LOT of left over pumpkin. I wasn't about to let it go to waste and I thought just making pumpkin rolls every 2-3 days for the next 2 weeks would probably not be a very good idea for our wastelines so I decided to make a pumpkin soup. I had all my ingredients and the recipe was pretty simple so I dove right in.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly except I added the milk a little early but it was fine. Then Doom's Day happened. The recipe calls for onions and potatoes. However, it is a cream soup so it must be creamy. Obviously. So one of the steps is to put the soup in the blender so to blend the onions and potatoes. I proceeded with this step unaware of any danger it might hold and to my surprise it was a lot more complicated and tragic than I initially thought. As I so lovingly put my delicious concoction into the blender to puree it with care the lid to the blender flew off like a, well like a blender lid flying off and the spewing soup covered my kitchen and all its inhabitants with an orange goo. It was awesome! I of course screamed and immediately called for my loving husband to come and participate in the madness and cleanup. The contents had just been boiling before they were placed in the blender and as the spewing ensued my hand was slightly singed by the hot liquid. When Kirk came in he was quite surprised to see the mess but thought maybe I had not put the lid on correctly in the first place and so tried himself. And the volcanic extravaganza continued. Next we decided that perhaps I had been a little too zealous in my filling of the blender and thought maybe if there was less liquid we would be more successful. After the third eruption we decided to let that step go and just eat the soup with a few potato chunks. You'd think this would be good enough for me but think again. I was not going to give up and just let this spawn of satan/volcan poas get the best of me. So with a stroke of genius I took out my trusty hand mixer and blended my soup by hand. This worked great. So I finished the soup while Kirk cleaned up our mess. The goo was everywhere including behind the stove/oven and even into the slots on our knife block.
Luckily the soup was out of this world and I even made homemade rolls to boot. Just rack this up as just one more of our crazy first year of marriage fiascos and adventures. Who wants a simple, peaceful, easy and boring life anyway? Not these Players!

Serial Cereal

I know i've done a post similar to this previously but I just get so excited when I save so much at the grocery store with my coupons. Kirk and I were getting dangerously low on cereal (only 6 boxes) and luckily Albertson's had an awesome sale this week. I didn't spend over $.70 on a box of cereal. sweet huh? I got all this for $32. That's right folks. I was pretty dang excited. I saved almost $90. The lady at the cash register wondered what I would do with all that cereal. I know it's a lot for just two people but hey, now I'm set up with breakfast into next year. And bring on the cinnamon rolls (my mother would be so mad I bought store-bought) and pies. =)

my walking adventure

so yesterday afternoon i had so many plans to be productive. the marathon is this weekend so i had to get all my chores done before we were gone for 3 days. first i had to do a little shopping for my sisters' bdays. i spent a little time trying to find a great gift but unfortunately didn't. then i remembered that kirk had a pretty big check from his student loans to deposit so i hurried home to get that before the bank closed. i got home, grabbed the checks then headed out the door. as i was walking out i glanced over to notice the clock. it was 4:14. i walked out the door and as i did a solicitation from a neighborhood pizza joint that was rubberbanded to the door knob got stuck in the door. i thought to myself "i should grab that and take it inside to throw away before i leave" but i was in too big of a hurry so i ignored that sweet little prompting. as i shut the door i reached to my pockets searching for my keys. not in the front pockets...not in the back pockets...that's right, i left them inside and of course i locked the doorknob on my way out so I LOCKED MYSELF OUT. obviously i had no keys to my car either which is also where my phone was. so here i am, locked out and completely cut off from anyone i know. what to do? luckily i had the checks to be deposited and my case with all my cards and i.d. so i decided to walk to the bank. kirk doesn't get home until 5:30-5:45 so i had the time. i decided to jump the wall in the backyard to cut my little jaunt down a bit. it was about a 3 mile walk and took me about 45 minutes to get there and back so then i had about half an hour to wait for kirk. i decided to walk around and see if i could find a pay phone to call kirk and tell him not to dilly-dally at school. i'm not sure if you're aware of this but if you don't live in the ghetto in las vegas then you will not find a pay phone close by. apparently they attract unwanted rubbish and people so places have opted to not have them. so again i have no contact with anyone to let them know i'm locked out and may be stolen by some crazy person or wild beast (ok we don't really have wild beasts in las vegas but still). as i was walking into my neighborhood i asked a young boy if he knew what time it was. apparently the phone in his hand that solicited my question was not turning on but he in turn thought the pen in my hand was a black & mild and asked for one himself. i said, "well it's a pen so..." and he walked away. so i just hung out in the backyard with the hummingbird and japanese beetle that kept flying around me until kirk got home. and then he and i had a good laugh.

luckily i have a great husband who decided after my ordeal to give me a night off from making dinner and took me out to eat. it really wasn't that bad. it's cooled off here in vegas so at least i wasn't melting. mostly i was just a little embarrassed but what a great story eh? =)
