So today I had a traumatic experience.
I was making dinner and slicing potatoes to bake. We got a super great mandolin for Christmas and it is such a wonder when it comes to slicing food. The only problem is that it is VERY sharp!
So there I was slicing potatoes and it was more than once that I thought about being careful and watch my fingers.
Then...I wasn't careful.
Next thing I know I have sliced my finger. Badly. And bleeding like crazy.
I automatically stuck my finger under the cold water and grabbed my phone to call Kirk.
It was quite lucky that he was on his way home already. He did have a home health appointment but I told him I sliced my finger and needed him to come home first.
I am the luckiest girl in the world to have such a caring husband.
I put some pressure on it and waited for Kirk.
He called his home health and told her that he thought he had to take me to get stitches so they would have to reschedule.
I didn't have to get stitches but he did need to wrap it really well so it would stop bleeding and start healing.
It hurt like crazy!!!!!
I turn into such a baby when things like this happen to me so I of course was crying.
The only thing that stopped the tears was when Heidi would walk into the room because I didn't want to scare her or worse make her throw up.
My amazing husband sat by my side and just let me cry and told me I didn't have to apologize for being a baby.
Kirk found the piece of my finger that was no longer attached to my body and had to snap a few pictures of it.
I still haven't actually looked at my finger so we'll see how it heals. We still have it wrapped and it still hurts but that is going away slowly but surely. I have been taking ibuprofen in the morning and before bed because that is when it hurts the worst. I also have to be really careful not to bump it cause that really kills.
It is hard work to do all my daily activities with out full use of my right hand but I am making do and Kirk is super helpful.
Here's to deformed fingers!
That is Kirk's normal finger and my severed tip. Don't worry, we still ate the potatoes. Just not that one. =)
